HOW DID YOU BEGIN YOUR CAREER?

I have been "designing" in a 3D environment since the early 1990's. Back then, it wasn't called BIM or anything of the sort. The programs used to create 3D geometry were difficult to use, expensive and produced less than ideal results. Today, it is a totally different story.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY?

I actually began as a residential carpenter. In looking at some of the designs that I was to construct, I thought that with a little bit of imagination, I could do a much better job putting a design together thanwhat we were given. From there, I spun my talents off as a design professional. At the same time, I got better and better at using CAD software in a 3D environment.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

No two projects are the same. When the project is finished, one can walk thought it, knowing one had a major role in putting all the pieces together.

BEST ADVICE:

Know the basics of construction, mechanical systems, building codes and computer software. Be open to the idea that there is more than one way to do something and, most important, have people skills.

BEST EXPERIENCE:

Being able to work together with others to coordinate a large Medical Facility with a tight schedule and coordinate it on time.
